About

Hi I'm Heidi.

I'm a hairdresser. And a makeup artist. And a nail tech. And a chef of ten years. Basically, if it involves making something beautiful with my hands, I've probably tried to make a living out of it. Multifaceted creative human is a generous word for it. My family might call it "can't sit still." I'd call it a spirit that's never quite finished shape shifting.

Most recently, I ran a food product business for seven years. I built it from nothing and then... plot twist, I shut it down. Turns out running a business that is mostly computer work, marketing, pick-and-pack made me realise the hard way somewhere along the way I lost the plot on the part I actually loved: making things with my own two hands, and letting that feel like magic instead of a to do list.

So I stopped. And in the gap where the business used to be, something unexpected wriggled its way in.. beads & pearls. Lots and lots of them!

I started making necklaces at night, half as a hobby, half as therapy (creative rehab, if we're being honest). Four or five a sitting, colour everywhere and no spreadsheets in sight. Yay!! It became less "making jewellery" and more a small nightly ritual, a chance to alchemise whatever the day had left in me into something you could actually wear. And somewhere between necklace two and necklace four hundred, I realised two things: I'm actually really good at this and apparently so does everyone else, because they kept trying to buy the ones off my own neck! I've also observed that people are seeking handmade/homemade more and more - it's a natural revolt against AI and mass production/consumerism, I'm predicting this is just the beginning of this movement. Hence why people are wanting to buy these lovely necklaces I'm making, there is an energy to them, from the intentions they are created with and the feeling you get wearing them!

Which brings us here.

I'll be honest, starting another "business" was not the plan. When I closed my last one, a lot of people said, "Can't wait to see what you do next!", and my nervous system responded with something closer to please, for the love of god, let me just be a mum for five minutes. Three daughters, a household, and my own sanity felt like plenty, thank you very much.

But the creativity had other ideas. It doesn't really care about my to-do list, it just wants a way through, and lately that way is beads. This isn't a hustle, and it isn't me chasing whatever's supposed to come "next." It's a spiritual act disguised as a hobby: colourful, beautiful, thoroughly joyful Neck Candy, made because making it lets something in me alchemise from my heart to my hands.

So that's heidimonika. Handmade, made with real feeling, touched by a bit of magic and intended to bring joy.
